Linux help

This section provides you with articles about easy and efficient use of a Linux/Unix operating system. At IST Austria the client devices usually run Ubuntu Linux (LTS – long time support releases), where our servers run Debian Linux. As Ubuntu also derives from Debian, there are only minor differences in using these systems.

If you want to work on a Linux system, IT provides a Linux “Terminal Server”, login.ist.ac.at.

Using with ssh

To use the system, simply take your favorite ssh client, and connect to the system with:

ssh [ISTusernam]@login.ist.ac.at

If you do not use a ssh-key, you need to enter your ISTpassword.

(Currently the system is available without prior VPN necessary.)
